Nyamira kenya science and engineering fair workshop 2019

The kenya science and engineering fair workshop took place today at Sironga girls high school. The attendance was quite well with all the sub-counties of Nyamira county represented.



On his opening remarks, Mr. Okindo the county secretary congratulated the schools that represented the county at the national KSEF competitions. The schools were Mokomoni mixed secondary school (one project), Mochenwa secondary school (two projects) and Ntana secondary school(one project). The county secretary urged teachers to uphold highest integrity when judging students’ projects. The secretary announced that the sub-county competitions shall be conducted by the 15th day of February, 2019 while the county competition will be held by 27th of February, 2019. The regional competitions are planned on 13th to 16th March 2019 in Kisii county while the national competitions will take place between 7th and 12th of April, 2019 at Nakuru couty.

The county chairman for the KSEF, Mr. Manoti, thanked the teachers for the efforts that they have put in the activity. “Whatever the judges will listen to, whatever the judges will see is over 70% your own effort” the chairman told the teachers. He also thanked the principles of the various schools in the county for allowing the teachers to attend the workshop.

Mr. Manoti remarked that there is concern at the region that the senior schools in Nyamira county are not putting the expected spirited effort and raising to the occasion as far as the KSEF is concerned. He however noted that a scientist can come from any school.

The chairman of the KSEF Nyanza region, Mr. Magawe informed the teachers that Nyanza region took position three at the national competitions after Nairobi and Central regions. Mr. Magawe said that if the mistakes made on last year’s projects can be rectified the we can do better as a region. The region did better in the following categories;
In agriculture a project from Nyanza took position 2, in chemistry position 3, in computer science position 2, in energy and transport position 1 & 4 and finally in environmental science position 4.

While addressing the audience, Mr. Mogusu encouraged them by saying that despite the challenges that the KSEF might have faced the teachers should not give up. “We either succeed or die trying” said Mr. Mogusu.

  1. Now with agreed modus operandi the teachers can now prepare the students adequately so that we can have many projects at national level than last year
