Today president Uhuru Kenyatta officially opened the second
Young Scientist Kenya (YSK) National Science and technology exhibition. In his
remarks the president congratulated all the students exhibiting their projects
at this year’s YSK and informed them that, as their patron, he is extremely
proud to be associated with their innovation, excellence and commitment to
using their knowledge, skills and talent to make Kenya and indeed the whole
world a better place.

Later on, Mr. peter Tabichi, the 2019 winner of the Global
Teacher Prize also had a chance to speak to the teachers and students at the
YSK exhibition. In his speech Tabichi encouraged the learners by telling them
that one can succeed regardless of his or her social background. He gave
them examples of girls from poor backgrounds who have achieved great things in
this world. Mr. Tabichi challenged teachers to do more than just assisting
learner to getting academic certificates. He was pleased with the teachers who have assisted learners prepare the projects that are being exhibited during this year’s
YSK exhibition.

Mr. George Waithaka, the Global E-Schools and Communities Initiative (GESCI) project coordinator for the implementation
of African Digital Schools initiative (ADSI) in Nyamira county also visited the exhibition to give moral support to
the learners from Nyamira county.

The exhibition runs up to Wednesday the 7th of August,
2019.
